Kings…We All Want to Be One – Part 2

As we are studying the life of King Hezekiah, we want to see what made him stand out above the rest. He was a great king and a leader who guided the people back to a relationship with God.  In the previous posting, we read that Hezekiah was a man of vision.  He knew why he had become king and who God had called him to serve and minister to.  If you want to know God’s vision for your life, check out the simple exercise at the end of that posting.

The second characteristic of a successful leader is to be courageous.  Hezekiah was not afraid to call the people to repentance and action. He knew God made him king and he was in that position to draw the people back to the Lord.  This would take bold proclamations and dramatic reform of the
kingdom.  He would meet opposition and people would speak negatively about him.  But, it didn’t matter.  King Hezekiah knew that to be a great leader, he had to be courageous.

Reading through 2 Chronicles 29-30, it becomes apparent Hezekiah had to be courageous.  He had to have courage to call the people to repentance.
He had to have courage to tear down the altars where the people worshipped false gods.  He had to have courage to stand against the King of Assyria.  He had to have courage to do what was right.

How about you?  Does courage characterize your leadership?  Do you care more about what others say or more about what God will say?  Do you submit to the word of popular demand or the Word of God?  Do you stand up for what is right in the face of adverse circumstances?

God has placed you in a position of leadership.  Whether in your home, in your workplace, in the social sector or in your church.  You are a leader, but are you a courageous leader?  Begin leading courageously today.
