It’s Been Too Long!!
It has been almost six months since I last wrote something on my blog. It hasn’t been because I haven’t had anything to say…those of you that know me know how true that is. It hasn’t been because I haven’t wanted to write, because I have. So why has it been so long? Why have I waited over 150 days before posting a new blog? Well, the answer is simple…I have been too busy and too lazy.
I will never allow the excuse “too busy†to be the marker as to why I didn’t do something. We all have the same number of hours in a day and there are people who manage to do all that I do and more in those 24 hours. However, I will say that the busyness of our life right now has caused me to be more tired and have less energy. Therefore, when I normally would be writing a blog, I find myself passed out on the couch with drool sliding down my face.
Why have I been so busy and in turn so tired? Well, I’m glad you asked. Let me share two exciting things happening with me and our family.
1. I Am Earning My Doctorate Degree.
Over the last three years I have been attending Liberty University in an attempt to earn my Masters of Divinity (MDiv) degree. I not only achieved my goal but earned a Masters of Arts in Religion (MAR) at the same time.
After I earned my MAR and MDiv, I wanted to go after a Doctorate of Ministry Degree (DMin). This degree only requires me to take 11 courses; however, 8 of those 11 classes must take place on the campus of Liberty. In January, I enrolled in my first two courses and just finished them less than a month ago. Although I was only taking two classes, I had so much reading and writing for these two that much of my spare time was spent on homework.
This is one reason I have been busy. The second reason is…
2. The Birth of Waverly
On March 9th, Sara and I welcomed our second child, Waverly Rose Smith, into the world. She was born at 5:40am and weighed a whooping 6lbs 6oz. She is stunningly beautiful…thank the Lord she looks like her momma. The birth of Waverly has been a tremendous blessing to our family and Wyatt, our two year old son, seems to really love her…as much as a two year old knows how.
Many people ask us how we came up with the name Waverly. If we were to have a boy, then we liked the name Winston, but if we were to have a girl, we weren’t sold on any names. A few months before Waverly was due, Sara and I were at a Brandon Heath concert and he mentioned that one of his family members was from Waverly, Tennessee. When we heard that name, Sara and I looked at each other and both agreed that we liked the name. Over the preceding months, we fell in love with the name and the idea that our kids would have names that begin with “Wâ€.
In addition, the name Waverly has a really cool meaning, but it would take too much space to explain it here. Suffice it to say, we love the name and we love how it flows with our son’s name.
In the end, I can’t say that my busyness has been the reason I haven’t blogged. There has definitely been some laziness that has been added into the equation, but I am forgetting what lies behind me and striving for what lies ahead.
I am excited to be blogging again and I hope these posting will be a blessing to you. If you have any suggestions on what you would like blogged about, please let me know.
What has busyness kept you from doing lately?
