No Shave November
Well, we are now 14 days into the month of November and that means a few things.  One, Christmas is right around the corner. Can you believe that? It feels like I just spent a bunch of money on Christmas gifts. Tis the Season! 🙂
Two, November is better known as “No Shave November”, which means that there are a bunch of guys walking around looking sketchy with patchy or overgrown beards. For me, I don’t participate in “No Shave November.” Why? Well, if you have seen my “beard” then you wouldn’t ask that question. Instead of facial hair, I have more of a chia pet that grows on my face and what is worse than that, it takes weeks for people to even notice.
Well, this year, I’m particpating in “No Shave November”, but only because there is a goal.
A month ago, Sara and I were riding in the car talking about the needs of the organization that we oversee called Bread of Life Mission. Bread of Life is an organization that reaches out to the unreached people of Kenya and South Sudan. One of the needs that we have right now is to purchase multiple motorcycles. Now, I know what you might be thinking…”Do you really need motorcycles to reach the unreached?” Well, the easy answer is “Yes!”
You see, unreached people are unreached usually for one of two reasons, either no one wants to go where they live or they live in a place that is hard to travel to. For the people groups that we work with, they are unreached because of both reasons. Therefore, a motorcycle will allow our missionaries to go deeper into the “bush” of Africa, where they can plant more churches, disciple more people and see more communities transformed. Pretty good reason to get a motorcycle, huh?
So how does growing a chia pet on my face help us purchase a motorcycle? Well, I’m glad you asked.
For every day that I am not shaving, I am asking poeple to sponsor me at $1/day. If I can get enough partners to sponsor me, or if I can get multiple guys to not shave for the entire month and recruit partners, then we will raise enough money to purchase at least one motorcycle, maybe two.
So, there it is. This is what I’m doing for November. So, if you see me around, laugh at me, point your finger, turn away in disgust…but I would encourage you that no matter how you react, may you become a part of the mission.
If you would like to partner with me in reaching the unreached of Kenya and South Sudan, for $30, then go here and you can help change a life and a community.
